Students receive frequent and comprehensive feedback on practical exercises and assignments. Expectations of student performance are made explicit from the start, and realistic outcomes are set in order to build self-confidence in the students.

Tutorial exercises, reading assignments, tests (including one essay test), poster presentations, and practical reports all contribute to the continuous assessment component of a student's mark. Students write theory and practical examinations in June and November.

The final mark is made up of: the class record for both 1st and 2nd semester, and the June theory and practical tests (Total 34%) + the final practical exam (33%) + the final theory exam (33%).
